Random

  • I have a green wall.  Its really green.

Now we just have to figure out the rest of our walls. . . .

  • Is it just me, or does it seem like everyone I know is pregnant!  I'm serious.  I can think of very few people (of child-birthing age of course) I know that aren't pregnant or didn't just have a baby last week (Allison).  AND I would say of the very few people I do know that aren't pregnant, half of them either are and haven't announced it yet, or are thinking about it/trying.  It must be that time of year or something??  Post if your pregnant to prove my point. . . .

  • Oh I better make it clear that everyone but ME is pregnant of course.  Maybe I silently wish I was but I know its not the right time.  I know that I need to be at my best for the next while for Benjamin.  And being pregnant is definitely NOT my best.

  • Why is it that Tanner almost refuses to do little jobs like make his bed and pick up his toys, but when it comes to the heavy stuff like scrubbing the bathroom, wiping walls, washing windows, or cleaning out the fridge, he's the first one to sign up!!!  Crazy.  I'm sure it won't last but I guess I'll take it for as long as it does. . . .

Happily wiping out the fridge

  • A few days ago I read an article in the Deseret News that I loved.  Not only was it hilarious, but true.  It was basically about how all mothers have no idea what we are doing and no matter how many books we read, advice from other mothers we get, we are all still lost.  Each child is so unique - you pretty much just have to do what is best for you and your family.  I have always felt this way - well pretty much just that I have no idea what I'm doing.  But it was fun to read this and feel some affirmation.  Honestly, and this wasn't in the article, but I think the best thing we can do as mothers is to go with our gut, our motherly instincts, or maybe more accurately "follow the spirit."  Its really all we have.

You can read the article here.

  • March is a great time of year.  Its a great month filled with basketball.  Our family has been enjoying watching BYU.  They've had ups and downs (more ups though) but I think are on a roll right now to end the season on a high.  We had a ton of fun at the BYU /Utah game on Saturday.  Its a nice family outing for us.

Gotta love Jimmer Fredette

  • We also (ok mostly Spencer) have enjoyed watching the Kansas Jayhawks.  Even though they won the National Championship last year and lost all of their starters, they have been amazingly good this year.  It makes my husband happy - and his whole family. As good as they've been with such a young team this year its almost scary how good they could be next year if they keep all their players.

  • In a couple weeks our family is flying out to Kansas City to visit our family there - but it also just happens to be the first week of the NCAA tournament.  (We pray that BYU somehow gets to play there in the first round!) The tournament is a big deal for all of our family out there and they usually have huge parties watching all the games together - so we're excited to be there finally to join in all the basketball festivities! March Madness here we come!

I'm laughing because I totally agree with you about the pregnancy thing! Practically everyone I know just had a baby or is on their way to having one! (Yay uncle david and Laura!)
Loved that article too! So funny!

I am not pregnant, but I wish wish wish I was!
You are right about mothering. It truly is a gut thing. We know our kids better than any book or expert. I once read 7 different books about babies and sleep- sure I learned a lot, but in the end, I have not used any of the tactics they suggested! Instead, I listened to my baby and to the Spirit and found what worked best for our needs.
...But I still read parenting books. I cannot help myself. Its nice to be informed, and then still make your own decision.

I'm not pregnant either, but wish I was. God only knows when the next one will be sent to our family. Hmmm.....

Your green wall brings back memories of my mission in Ohio - everyone had colorful walls. When I get a house I want COLOR too. I have to say though, with the way BYU blood runs through your veins I think you need a True Blue wall.

As for books - I am always reading parenting books, baby books, medical books, vaccine books, nutrition books, education books and whatever else. I am constantly learning and finding my course in life for my family. Ultimately the Spirit guides but it is so fun to learn! Like Holly I like being informed and making my own decision.

I just want to say so that no one misunderstands and I don't sound offensive - I'm not saying not to read parenting books etc. - I also love to read whatever I can if for nothing else but some ideas or things to think about. But my point was if you read the article I linked that a lot of times these "parenting experts" contradict - there are so many different ideas out there - and it can be confusing. Thus really all we can truly rely on is the spirit.

Love the green wall!!! We painted our condo all sorts of bright colors. The nice thing about paint is if you hate it, you can repaint it! (did that with our bathroom)
So can we hire Tanner to wipe out our fridge? That is so funny!
And yes, it seems that everyone I know is pregnant or has just had another child. It's a conspiracy to make my mom hound me even more for a grandchild!

I love it when you post the random things you have been thinking about because it makes me think too! Your wall is awesome-when did you do it, I'm sure I would have known sooner if my blasted phone hadn't died and we didn't take forever getting a new one!
Have fun in Kansas, I hope all of your basketball dreams come true!

The wall is a great color. We just painted our litte bathroom & have pretty much the entire house to go too (and it's been over a year - sad!). As for for pregnancy, I also wish I was (or maybe I am and don't even know it), but there is always next month (and the month after that, and the month after that :)).

I love green; that is a great wall! Good luck with the rest of your walls.
So...I am NOT pregnant (pretty sure). But for me, it's like everyone I know is getting un-pregnant. In our ward we've had two births in the last two weeks with at least five to go in the next little while...crazy.
I hear ya on the cleaning thing. I'm just taking advantage of this phase while I can! Hmm, we haven't tried the fridge yet....
Have fun in Kansas City!

I love that green wall! I am thinking about painting our fireplace wall, still trying to figure out the color.
