Draper Temple Open House

We were able to go to the Draper Temple open house last Thursday as a family and it was so fun! We tried to talk about the temple in fhe on Monday so that we could prepare Tanner.  He was so surprised when we told him that he and Benny would be able to come inside a temple with us.  He seemed confused because for all he knew the temple was somewhere that only mommy and daddy ever got to go inside!

All week long Tanner was pretty excited to go in the temple and kept asking about it.  It was a really fun opportunity to be able to really talk to him about the temple and its purpose and why we go there.  He's really at the age where he is starting to understand things pretty well and is interested.  It's so fun!  It's amazing to me how receptive young children are to the simple truths of the Gospel.  There is never a doubt in his mind that all these things we try to teach him are true and are important.  Kids are amazing.

It was fun looking in the mirrors in the sealing room and see our family there forever.  It was also fun to explain to Tanner that someday he could get married there.  He's always known this but its just neat to hear your little kids say that that's what they want to do someday.  On the way home he kept asking when we could go in the temple again.  I hope we keep building more temples nearby and being able to go to more open houses because he didn't seem very satisfied that he would have to wait until he was 12 to go inside for baptisms!  I think its important to help our children gain a love for the temple while they are still young.

I loved going to this open house.  It was a really fun opportunity to take our children and be with them inside the temple.  Even though it is not yet dedicated you can truly feel the spirit there.  It is a very beautiful temple!  I don't think I've ever seen a temple with more beautiful paintings throughout it!  It makes me really want to do my best to make our home more like the temple.  There are so many ways we can work on doing this and I hope I can improve everyday.

What a neat experience to be able to take your boys inside the temple. I'm sure thats something that Tanner will always remember.

What a beautiful post.
We're going in March and it made me that much more excited. That's neat Tanner's old enough to understand and remember his first temple experience.

Mat and I took Ensign today through the Draper temple. Oh what a wonderful experience. Ensign could not get enough of the baptistery. He liked the chandeliers and the paintings of Christ too. I enjoyed the beauty of the temple - for me I haven't seen a more beautiful temple. It's amazing how little children appreciate such detailed beauty. Ensign listened intently to all we told him about each room (and outside - where he loves the Angel Moroni!!!). I can't wait to go again. Like you I want to make my home more like the temple.

Sounds like a neat experience. We're going in March and hope to have the same effect on the kids. Mikaila keeps asking if Tanner could just come over and play...the distance still doesn't make a lot of sense to her.

We went to this on Monday, it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, there was a lot of waiting involved, so the kids got pretty restless and Holly kept saying she wanted to go home, but once we got inside the temple, they really loved it. Fox said he just loved all the rooms, Holly liked the "Cinderella rooms" which was any room with a chandelier :)
